There are dealerships that sell cars, and then there is Indus Motors!
Today, Indus Motor Company Private Limited stands as the largest Maruti Suzuki dealer network in the country, achieving a landmark milestone by selling out 50,482 new cars in a single financial year, a feat unmatched by any automotive dealer in the country.
Since four decades after the opening of our first showroom in Calicut, this milestone stands out as our biggest achievement yet. This accomplishment reflects our legacy, shaped by the trust we’ve earned across all fourteen districts in Kerala. Decades of steady growth have shaped Indus Motors into the highest-selling Maruti dealer in India. Above all factors, we have built our journey on a clear vision, growing reach, and unwavering performance over the years.
The story of Indus Motors can be traced back to 1959, when a young entrepreneur, T. M. Nair, arrived in Dubai and recognised an opportunity in the emerging automobile market that few others had yet identified. With this inspiration, he reached out to Nissan in Japan and secured the agency representation for Datsun cars in the UAE, marking the first introduction of Japanese automobiles to the Middle East. From then on, he came to be widely known as “Datsun Nair".
Mr. Nair’s association with Japanese automobile manufacturers grew stronger through the late 1970s and into the 1980s. During this period, he learned that Suzuki was in discussions with Sanjay Gandhi to develop a new low-cost Indo-Japanese car. He quickly recognised what many others had yet to see. The same Japanese automobile model that had reshaped the GCC market had the potential to redefine mobility for India’s emerging middle class as well.
His partner in this vision was Dr P.A. Ibrahim Haji. As a fellow NRI, Mr Haji had just begun his entrepreneurial journey in the UAE in 1974 with a garments business, later expanding into cosmetics, trading, and jewellery through his Century Trading Company. Together, they made a daring investment in India's automotive future.
The Indus Motor Company Private Limited was incorporated on 11th July, 1984, with its registered office at Indus House, Chakorathukulam, Calicut and its Corporate Office at Thevara, Kochi. The first dealership opened in Calicut in 1986, just as the Maruti 800 was beginning to redefine what car ownership meant for millions of Indian families.

The first few years were all about establishing credibility in the market and still warming up to mass car ownership. Indus Motors concentrated on northern Kerala and built a loyal customer base through quality service and transparent dealings. These values later became the foundation of the company’s identity across all fourteen districts of the state.
Dr P.A. Ibrahim Haji went on to expand his ventures beyond the automobile market. In 1999, he founded the PACE Education Group, cementing the founders' reputation as an institution builder. As founder and Vice-Chairman of Indus Motor Company, his long-term vision played a key role in shaping the company’s growth.
By the early 1990s, Indus Motors had outgrown its origins as a single-city dealership and was ready for its next phase of expansion.
In 1993, Mr. P. V. Abdul Wahab, a business magnate, philanthropist, and three-time Rajya Sabha MP, joined as a director and shareholder in Indus Motors. By 1998, he assumed full management of the company, marking the start of a transformative phase for Indus Motors.
As Chairman of the Malabar Airport Development Committee, he played a key role in the crowd-funded development of Calicut International Airport. He also collaborated with Mobil Oil Corporation USA, a Fortune 500 company, to plan a purpose-built seaport near Calicut. His investments across plantations, shopping malls, and residential projects had already contributed to shaping South India’s economic landscape.
Mr Wahab brought the same strategic focus to Indus Motors. Under his guidance, the company strengthened its customer experience, expanded its presence across Kerala, and built a strong operational base. Over time, the network grew to more than 100 sales outlets, over 75 workshops, and a workforce of around 6,000 employees across all the 14 districts of Kerala.
In FY 2025–26, Indus Motors achieved something no automotive dealer in India had ever done before - 50,482 new car deliveries in a single financial year. This is not just a Kerala record or a Maruti Suzuki record. It stands as a first-of-its-kind milestone in the history of automotive retail across India. To put 50,482 deliveries in perspective:
| Metric | Figure |
| Total cars delivered in FY 2025–26 | 50,482 |
| Average deliveries per working day (300 days) | 167 cars/day |
| Average deliveries per hour (10-hour working day) | 17 cars/hour |
| Delivery rate | 1 car every 15 minutes |
| Sales outlets enabling this volume | 100+ across Kerala |
| Workshops supporting after-sales | 75+ across Kerala |
| Workforce behind the milestone | 6,000+ employees |
This is what 50,482 looks like in operational reality: 167 families driving home a new Maruti every single working day, facilitated by our showroom network that spans every district, every taluk, and every major town in Kerala.
With over 40 years of expertise, Indus Motors is proud to showcase our achievements over the years:

How Indus Motors Compares: Annual Sales vs. Major Maruti Dealers in India
The 50,482 figure becomes even more significant when placed alongside our competitors – India's other leading Maruti Suzuki dealership groups:
| Rank | Dealership | Annual Sales FY 2025–26 | Sales Network | Service Centres | Operational Reach | Key Strength |
| 1 | Indus Motors | 50,482 (confirmed) | 130+ outlets | 75+ workshops | All 14 districts of Kerala | First dealer in India to cross 50K - 13 consecutive No. 1 awards |
| 2 | Popular Vehicles & Services Ltd | 30,000–35,000 (approx.) | 150+ touchpoints (multi-brand) | Extensive | South India | 5th largest Maruti Arena dealer nationally (FY2023 IPO filing) |
| 3 | Sai Service Pvt Ltd | 25,000–30,000 (approx.) | Multi-state network | Large network | Pan-India presence | Leading Maruti benchmark dealer in western India |
| 4 | EVM Motors | 18,000–22,000 (approx.) | Multi-location | Multiple | Kerala network | Strong Kerala-wide footprint |
| 5 | KVR Automobiles | 15,000–20,000 (approx.) | Regional outlets | Multiple | North Kerala | Growing North Kerala network |
| 6 | AM Motors | 12,000–18,000 (approx.) | Arena showrooms | Limited | Kerala regions | Royal Platinum status; Limca Record holder |
The gap between Indus Motors and its nearest competitor remains substantial. At 50,482 confirmed sales, Indus Motors has delivered approximately 56% more cars than Popular Vehicles, the second-ranked Kerala dealer by estimated volume, in the same financial year. The lead is even more significant when compared with Sai Service, a major benchmark dealer in western India. This makes it one of the most concentrated displays of dealership dominance in the history of Indian automotive retail.
Behind every car delivered every 15 minutes is a system built around the customer. From the moment a buyer enters any of Indus Motors’ 130+ outlets, our team of executives remain ready to assist you throughout the entire car-buying journey. This includes helping select the right model and color, identifying suitable finance options, and sharing regular updates on the vehicle status until delivery.
Unlike other car dealers, our support and services continue beyond the sales point. Indus Motors provides doorstep pickup for servicing, collecting the vehicle from the customer's home. servicing it with Maruti-certified technicians, and returning it. For breakdowns on the road, Maruti On Road Service sends technicians directly to the location. If the repair necessitates workshop assistance, we tow the vehicle to the nearest service station without any effort needed from the customer.
This end-to-end experience is delivered consistently across 130+ outlets by a team of 6,000 trained professionals. This is a key reason why Indus Motors has held the national No. 1 position for 13 consecutive years. The high sales volume is the result of this experience, not the starting point.

To mark this extraordinary achievement, Indus Motors is hosting a landmark celebration on 3rd April 2026 at 10:30 AM at the Indus Motors Nexa Studio in Nilambur.
The occasion brings together two major milestones:
The event will be graced by the presence of Maruti Suzuki India Ltd.’s senior leadership:
The presence of Maruti Suzuki’s top marketing and sales leadership at this celebration reflects strong recognition from the manufacturer. It highlights that Indus Motors’ achievement in FY 2025–26 is a defining moment for India’s automotive retail industry. With 30 new outlets inaugurated on the same day, Indus Motors reinforces a clear message that 50,482 is just an achievement in our ongoing journey to the top.
Forty years after opening our first showroom in Calicut, Indus Motors stands at an extraordinary vantage point. Our milestone of 50,482 deliveries is one that will be studied, referenced, and aspired to by automotive dealers across India for years to come. The simultaneous inauguration of 30 new outlets shows that we are not pausing to celebrate but continuing to grow at pace.
From T. M. Nair’s first conversation with Nissan in Dubai, to Dr P. A. Ibrahim Haji’s vision of building something enduring in Kerala, to Mr P. V. Abdul Wahab’s transformation of a single Calicut showroom into India’s most powerful automotive retail network, every chapter of this journey has been guided by a shared belief: Consistent excellence over time builds a lasting legacy.
Fifty thousand cars in one year, 130 outlets across Kerala, 6,000 employees, 13 years at the top, and 40 years of trust together define this journey.
The highest-selling Maruti dealer in India did not reach this position by chance. It was built step by step, one delivery, one customer, and one year at a time. The road ahead now holds even greater possibilities.
